College of the North Atlantic

CCIL is funding a Newfoundland and Labrador-wide $2,500 scholarship, awarded twice annually through the College of the North Atlantic over a five-year term known as the “Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories Bursaries.”

The CNA awards scholarships to students who are enrolled in full-time studies in Civil Engineering Technology or Environmental Engineering Technology programs. Its goal is to remove the barrier to education based on financial limitations. The Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) is funding a $2,500 annual scholarship to be awarded to a student in the Civil Engineering Program at Durham College.

The recipient will be enrolled in full-time studies, and will have successfully completed the first year of study achieving academic excellence.

The CCIL Scholarship will be awarded annually for a period of three years, starting in the 2019-2020 school year.

Recipients will be selected by the Student Awards Office of Durham College.

Northern Alberta Institute of Technology – Chemical Technology Scholarship

Commencing in 2019, the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) is funding a $2,500 annual scholarship / bursary to be awarded to a student in the Chemical Technology Program entering his/her second year of studies at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT)

The recipient will be enrolled in full-time studies, and will have successfully completed the first year of study achieving academic excellence.

The CCIL Scholarship will be awarded annually for a period of five years, starting in the 2019-2020 academic year.

Recipients will be selected by the Student Awards Office of NAIT.

Municipal & Structural Engineering Technology Scholarship

The Red River Scholarship was established by the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) to provide financial assistance to a student entering 3rd year of Municipal or Structural Engineering Technology at Red River College. The scholarship is available to a 3rd year student who has achieved a minimum 3.0 GPA based on their 2nd year, and a minimum grade of “B” for either Geotechnical Fundamentals (Structural Engineering Technology) or Geotechnical Materials 1 (Municipal Engineering Technology). Applicants must also demonstrate a financial need. Applications shall be made directly to Red River College, and the successful candidate will be selected directly by the College.

Southern Alberta Institute of Technology – Civil Engineering Technology Scholarship

Commencing in 2019, the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL) is funding a $2,500 annual scholarship / bursary to be awarded to a student in the Civil Engineering Technology Program entering his/her second year of studies at the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology (SAIT)

The recipient will be enrolled in full-time studies, and will have successfully completed the first year of study achieving academic excellence.

The CCIL Scholarship will be awarded annually for a period of five years, starting in the 2019-2020 academic year.

Recipients will be selected by the Student Awards Office of SAIT.

The Robert Deverall Chemical and Environmental Technology Scholarships sponsored by CCIL, established on December 17, 2014

Robert Deverall Chemical and Environmental Technology Scholarships were established in 2014, in recognition of Rob’s commitment to the independent testing industry. The Scholarships are available to students attending the British Columbia Institute of Technology. The criteria for the scholarships are as follows:

  1. The Robert Deverall Chemical and Environmental Technology Scholarship – First Year Achievement Award, going to a candidate entering 2nd year
  2. The Robert Deverall Chemical and Environmental Technology Scholarships – Second Year Achievement Award, which is a graduating award for someone completing the 2-year program
    • In both cases, the awards are for students in the Chemical and Environmental Technology Program – Analytical Sciences option.
    • In both cases, the award is based on academic achievement but should also consider the student’s overall qualities and thus based on one or more of the following: extra-curricular involvement within BCIT, community involvement (i.e. volunteer activities) and/or communication capabilities.

Both annual scholarships will be in the amount of $2,500.00 each.

University of Ottawa

University of Ottawa – Dr. John Dickson Memorial Bursary

The Dr. John Dickson Memorial Bursary was created in honour of Dr. John Dickson, the former Certification Program Manager for the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories. John was instrumental in the development of the program in its early years, and he helped lay the cornerstone of what is now a successful National program that certifies asphalt, aggregate and concrete testing laboratories. John earned a Bachelor of Science at the University of Ottawa in 1952, and a Doctorate in Science from Laval University in 1958, and he pursued a 49-year career as a research chemist. His workplaces included the Canadian Armament Research and Development Establishment (CARDE) in Valcartier, the Shell Canada Refinery in Montreal, the Shell Oil Research Center in Oakville, Ontario, the Ontario Ministry of Transportation, and finally the Canadian Council of Independent Laboratories (CCIL), where he was the Certification Program Manager. In John’s honour, CCIL has established an annual bursary of $2,500.00 to an undergraduate Faculty of Engineering student who is registered in the BASc in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering Option program or in the BASc in the Civil Engineering program. The applicant must:

  1. be a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a person with the protected/refugee status;
  2. be registered as a full-time student in the BASc in Chemical Engineering, Environmental Engineering Option program or in the BASc in the Civil Engineering program at the Faculty of Engineering of the University of Ottawa; and
  3. demonstrate financial need, as determined by the Financial Aid and Awards Service of the University of Ottawa.

Applications must be made through Online Scholarships and Bursaries, which can be accessed through the uoZone portal, and should include the Financial Questionnaire.
